Robert Downey Jnr: The Sequel! (movie #34)

Iron Man 2

Status: Behind, behind, behind.

If you’re not living under a rock you know what Iron Man 2 is about - hell, even Hungry Jack’s is promoting the bejesus out of it, on top of the regular amount of saturation advertising the biggest blockbuster sequel of the season usually gets  - so I won’t waste your time recounting the plot.

What I will tell you is that I found it, if not nearly as good as the original Iron Man, not nearly as bad as X-Men Origins: Wolverine.  The pace is (mostly) kept moving along by a fairly light touch from director JON FAVEAU and lovely energy from the first rate cast (ROBERT DOWNEY JNR, GWYNETH PALTROW, SCARLETT JOHANNSON, DON CHEADLE and the ever-excellent SAM ROCKWELL as co-bad guy with MICKEY ROURKE).

The script, however, wavers between snappy dialogue and bone-crushingly bad exposition.  In the hands of a less impressive cast it could have fallen right the hell over.  As it is, it’s a fair whack of decently silly fun.
