Better RED than dead (movie #105)

RED

With a lesser cast, this film would have sucked really, really a lot.  The script is thin, the story ridiculous, the action boringly shoot-em-up (but for a couple of notable exceptions).  It’s far too reliant of the funk soundtrack for energy and the whole thing felt so polished that I couldn’t help but see that there was nothing beneath the shiny, shiny surface.  Thank Frank, then, for the cast.

BRUCE WILLIS plays Frank Moses, a retired CIA black ops badass who is thrust back into action when a group of non-retired CIA black ops badasses come to kill him.  He’s figuring out the convoluted plot on the run with MORGAN FREEMAN, JOHN MALKOVICH, MARY LOUISE PARKER and HELEN MIRREN with the CIA – REBECCA PIDGEON (from anything DAVID MAMET has ever done) and KARL URBAN (LoTR, Star Trek) – hot on his heels.

Largely stupid and mostly pointless.  But still, oddly, fun.
